Poi is a performing art that consists of a ball or balls attached to a length of flexible material, such as chain or rope that is swung from your hands. Originating in New Zealand, poi has seen many different adaptations and cultural influences.
Fire Poi was first seen in Hawaii around the late 1950s and caught on quickly. Fire poi is usually constructed with a piece of kevlar wick attached to a chain. The wicks are soaked in a fuel such as kerosene, alcohol, naphtha, or paraffin and are lit before performing. Fire poi is becoming increasingly popular in North America.
There are many tricks and swings that can be mastered and performed. We have built a community-based forum for you to ask questions and discuss your favourite tricks.
